Attorney Scott W. Lang was the overwhelming choice of New Bedford voters today, defeating four-term incumbent Frederick M. Kalisz Jr. by a 2-to-1 ratio. Mayor Kalisz spoke to his campaign workers just before 8:45 p.m.

“You know what the conversations in the car was ‘Ricky, guess what. We’re going to Disney World finally,” Mayor Kalisz told his supporters as he took the stage at his campaign headquarters tonight.

“When there are lows there are also highs. In the last four municipal elections we won with 61.2 percent, the highest any mayor has achieved. Now the problem with that- that number worked against us tonight. But the fact is it is what it is. The most loyal group of supporters through thick aned thin. Thanks to each and everyone of you.

I also want to thank the voters, who have always showed me courtesy.
